Happy Halloween  (brain injury, web development, Daily Mail - Mail on Sunday)  posted on Saturday 31st of October 2009 at 2.36 pm

6 years ago today (halloween) I came home from Clatterbridge Neuro-rehabilitation unit.

There I learnt how to walk a little and began to speak, also a little.

I would spend the next three or four years trying to rebuild my life, make a future, and remembering/relearning, slowly, my work (web development.)

There was a computer in the rehab unit I could use; I remember sitting in front of it and thinking *shit*; I hadn't a clue where to start.

One good thing though; I could see the screen ok to read. I couldn't find the "any" key though.

Had to use my left hand for the mouse though, and to type anything, as my right arm was totally out of use.

It would take me about a year to be able to raise it above my head. With help from physiotherpists at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd my balance started to return and I regained some strength in my arms using the weights in the gym there.

I did the same for my legs as the right one had, sort of... tried to die or something while I was unconscious. I came round with it in a big "brace" type "tube/plaster" (my foot had been turning inwards, toes of my right leg towards my left leg.)

I could only *look* at my guitar :)

I still can't strum very well; I used to play 'The Wedding Present' songs in a band years ago and could manage them fine (strumming is a bit quick.)

I haven't had a really good go recently.

This week I went to a "Speakers' Club" and gave a little "speak" on brain injury, based on the writing I'd done here.

I've become quite engrossed in how the media operates too (again; I did media studies for a few months at university.)

Barack ObamaToday I've come across an article/book review from earlier this year in the notoriously right-wing Daily Fail 'Beware the liberal fascists - the leaders who aim to 'save' us by controlling everything we do'.

The picture on the right is displayed with caption 'Dictating to us: Barack Obama loves telling us how to live'.

See my takes on politics, the media, and other stuff here.

Oh, and happy halloween.

Real scary innit.

Soon be 'burning the enemy alive' day.

Again.

Us 'civilized' nations know how to do that don't we?

This time of year is strange.
