"Spain's unemployment rate hit 17.4% at the end of March, figures have shown, with the jobless total now having doubled over the past 12 months."
That Gordon Brown eh Dave, sheesh, no end to the destruction that he has caused.
HIM AND HIS RECESSION!
Let me guess.. it's because British holiday makers can't afford to go to Spain and.. OK I think I understand where Dave C will be coming from on this particular one...
They are talking about unemployment IN THIS COUNTRY actually reaching a level last seen under THE CONSERVATIVES; the last financial catastrophe they had to deal with happened in David Cameron's Department, The Treasury, during Black Wednesday on 16th September 1992.
Black Wednesday: Norman Lamont and advisor David Cameron raised interest rates by 2 percent in one day. They said they'd raise them again to 15% but the dealers didn't believe them and they kept selling sterling, forcing Lamont to pull the pound out of the Exchange Rate Mechanism after spending £27 billion of 'tax payers dollars' trying not to look like an idiot.
DID ANYONE SAY "SORRY"? No, but Chancellor Norman Lamont, with his sidekick during the fiasco, David Cameron (later to go on to be a PR man) managed "It's been a difficult day".
Interest rates went up to 15%. Thousands of people lost their homes. And as mentioned above, unemployment rose to terrible levels.
Anyway while we're on the subject of the PR trade, Dave's Conservatives have employed the services of PR consultancy firm, Pretty Little Head, run by two women, who believe they can reach a 'female audience by appealing to its "utopian impulse". It claims to use "scientific research" on gender differences, which controversially suggests that women are driven by a need to "tend and befriend", while men are ruled by an "achievement impulse".'
You know I am a "mongoloid" without an original thought in my head, so I better tell you how I know this information. It was in the Independent story "Cameron hires PR firm to get inside pretty little heads of female voters"

P.S. Sorry that is quite an old story, just catching up on the news after a long time out of it.
[update]Wait.. David Cameron, you're a very naughty boy; you've been telling everyone in the UK that it's all been Gordon Brown's fault and nothing to do with an international banking crisis, or your mates, you know, the ones that you wine and dine, the investment bankers. It is now reported: "Kofi Annan: 'Greed' caused crisis". I think he might be a man who knows what he's talking about, being the former UN secretary general. Have you been telling fibs? You naughty boy, going to tell nursey.
I suppose the situation is entirely unrelated to "The Tories failed to back a ban on shortselling where City traders gamble on the collapse of a company. They also called for deregulation of the mortgage market."" The story entitled: 'Probe shows Tories "in the pocket" of bankers'[/update]
